Along with that change, the company added satellite communications, wireless systems integration and IT system deployment to its well-established core competencies.

Over the years since TechStart was founded, the need for scientific and technical talent has grown. In fact, the federal sector has steadily increased its demand for engineers, technicians, software developers and scientists--as well as the technically knowledgeable managers capable of leading these highly specialized individuals--to support numerous new programs, including offensive Homeland Security initiatives.

With an established workforce and a solid organizational structure, TechStart is able to satisfy the most difficult engineering and scientific requirements. TechStart consultants have delivered "Mission Critical Expertise" to Northrop-Grumman, SRC, ITT, MCI, Intel, Ingersoll-Rand, USBank, Mitre, CodeOne, USWireless, Innerwall, etc.

 

Technical Recruiting & Staff Augmentation

Although consulting is the company's primary offering, recruiting and staffing for direct-hire positions in other companies is decidedly postive offshoot of TechStart's ability to find exceptional talent.

In 2003, TechStart acquired Knowledge Design, Inc. (KDI) which had been recruiting and staffing software development and systems engineering experts for federal (classified and unclassified projects) and private industry since 1993. The acquisition of KDI expanded TechStart's reach into California, Texas and Hawaii.

Benefits of Working with TechStart

The incentives and prospects for success in this arena have only recently been recognized by industry. As an example, the target federal SDVOSB annual spending goal of three percent (3%) has rarely exceeded half a percent (0.5%), since 1999, when Public Law 106-50, The Veteran's Entrepreneurship and Development Act of 1999, established the goal.

An average of $7 billion has been left unallocated to SDVOSBs over the last five years. These results have been attributed in various forums to either the lack of opportunity (federal agency set-aside initiatives), capability (SDVOSBs lacking the appropriate technical skill sets) or visibility (SDVOSB not registering in federal databases, SDVOSB marketing efforts or SDVOSB advocacy).
